Israeli Innovation in Braille Control for the Pharma Industry

Innovative Solution: ASIO Vision Technology Improves Braille Control in the Pharma Industry

Emil Avgi, an experienced integrator and technician, has developed an innovative solution for Braille control in the pharmaceutical industry. This solution, based on advanced camera technology from ASIO Vision, replaces expensive and cumbersome European systems and positions Israel as a world leader in this field.

The Problem that Required a Creative Solution

“Medicine boxes must include Braille so that visually impaired individuals can read them,” explains Emil Avgi, detailing the challenge. “The problem is that none of us can read Braille. There are workers at the end of the line who perform checks, but they cannot check the dots and count each one – the moment a dot is lost, the Braille completely changes its content”.

Existing Systems and Their Limitations

Until now, only two systems in the world were capable of performing Braille control – German and Spanish. Emil Avgi tried both of them: “The German system is cumbersome and not integrative. It’s a standalone system that can only do one thing. When it broke down, I said I wasn’t willing to support it – it’s inconvenient to wait for the Germans every time there’s a malfunction”.

The Spanish system was better, but with a critical drawback: “It can only scan 6 centimeters, but I need to cover a spread of 12 centimeters. It simply doesn’t meet the requirements”.

The ASIO Vision Solution

When he received instructions from the factory to create an alternative system, Emil Avgi began searching for a local solution. After checking various companies, he came across ASIO Vision, a sub-company of another firm that referred him to them.

“What’s special about ASIO Vision is their approach,” Emil enthuses. “Other companies offered me a sophisticated but fixed camera – like ready-made cakes where you can’t change anything. The intelligence was in the camera, not the software”.

ASIO Vision offered a completely different approach: “They told me – we give you a relatively simple camera, and all the intelligence sits in the software we build. This means you are completely flexible – the programmer can do exactly what you ask for”.

An Unprecedented Integrative System

The result is a system that meets all requirements: “We got a wonderful system that can cover 12 centimeters and not 6 like the Spanish one, which is the second in the world,” Avgi proudly states.

The system created by ASIO Vision also translates these dots into text, something that a worker at the end of the line can read.

But the biggest advantage lies in the system’s smart architecture: “My system is connected to the machine and takes the output of ASIO Vision as a Channel On. It stores the information along the entire line – because you don’t immediately discard the packaging; it continues 5-6 meters down the line, and you need to remember its location at every moment”.

The system is integrative and allows for the addition of further channels: “I have two more channels – one checks for stuck doubles, and the other reads a pharma code. The Germans build this as three separate and expensive systems, and I only pay for one channel and add the rest as needed”.

A Revolution in the Industry

Emil Avgi and ASIO Vision’s solution sets a new precedent in the industry. Instead of relying on expensive and cumbersome foreign systems, the Israeli solution offers flexibility, economic savings, and local support.

“This proved that Israel can develop advanced solutions in this field,” Emil concludes. “And most importantly – it ensures that visually impaired individuals receive correct and safe information about the medications they are taking”.

Fast and Market-Adapted Response

Jackie Cobo, CEO of ASIO Vision, emphasizes that the solution expresses the company’s core value – combining advanced technology with practical application for the customer.

“We chose to develop a system that provides operational freedom and integrative flexibility, replacing old and difficult-to-implement solutions”.

“We have succeeded in positioning our solution at the forefront of Braille writing control, with a fast and market-adapted response that gives our customers a real competitive advantage”.
